linda macdonald

Linda MacDonald lives in Mendocino County, north of San Francisco. The county is mountainous with Douglas fir and redwood. There is much wildlife, many rivers, and a varied landscape that borders on the Pacific and moves over mountain ridges to the dryer and hotter interior. She uses these images in her artwork with a focus on the edges where human life has pushed up against the natural. The universal issues of overpopulation and habitat depletion are at work here in the trailings of the logging booms of the 19 th and 20 th centuries. She uses humor and an approachable, simple style to present these issues in an entertaining way.

Linda has been making images in fiber and paint since the 1970s. She has exhibited internationally and has work in the Museum of Art & Design, New York, NY, and in many private collections. She has taught at San Francisco State University, art centers in Japan, and a continuation high school. She has a BA and MFA from San Francisco State University and a teaching credential from Dominican College.

Her current goals are to exhibit her whimsical paintings about the old tourist attractions along the Redwood Highway. These attractions have used giant redwoods in a variety of humorous ways over the years and are very endearing and charming.
