Weaving computing and human narratives interwoven through words. Human engagement.
The aim of The Loom; From Text to Textile (the 2005 pilot) was to engage the public in a process of self reflection and interconnection with each other's experiences of life and death narratives through the medium of weave, space, and text, facilitated by computing.
The outcome of this process was a 20 metre textile and a large scale installation piece involving fabric, rope, light, sound and scent which took place over four days in the autumn of 2005.
The public were asked to choose and bring to the piece two relationships of meaning, one with a living person and one with someone who had died. The written information relating to these two people—name, date, and location of birth or death—was used to create the weave through a specially written computerized system and weaver design.
