evelyn klein

Evelyn Klein, painter and printmaker, originally from Chile, lived in Montreal until 1997, then settled in California and created a printmaking studio, Equinox Press, specializing in etching. She has been actively involved in various collective printmaking centers in Canada, where she has been exploring the integration of traditional techniques such as lithography and etching to new non-toxic techniques, which she now teaches at Monterey Peninsula College in Monterey. She has participated in numerous individual and group shows throughout Canada, United States, Europe, Japan, and South America.

Artistic Statement

"REMOVE THE VEIL, REVEAL THYSELF, AND THE MYSTERY WILL UNFOLD."

My passion for printmaking has released me into a world of the unknown translated through the integration of traditional processes of lithography and etching, which I have combined with new techniques such as collagraphy.

My work reflects my preoccupation with humanity and its relationship to the universe.   Fragmented images of man and woman surrounded by the forces of nature down below and the power of the universe up above, carry our destiny: the cycle of life.

The written word, in many languages, and archetypal symbols represents both my heritage and mankind's universality.  The images attempt to touch the place where frontiers are nonexistant.

I use fine transparent printed fragments of Japanese paper collaged to the painting in process, to add to the subtle mystery of the work.
