Artist’s Statement: “Reflections”

The genesis of these new paintings is an intense observation of light translated into color. Muted reflections of dried eucalyptus leaves on silver suggested a subtle palette of roses, peaches, lavenders, cool blues, and mossy greens.

My interest in a direct visual experience of color led me to use an Italian alabaster ground, which absorbs oil paint easily, creating a matte surface.

In the soft, silvery light of these paintings there is a stillness; the paintings can be seen as a site of meditation or refuge.
