Rachel Tzvia Back -- poet, translator, and professor of literature -- has lived in Israel for the last 26 years. Her work includes the poetry collection Azimuth (Sheep Meadow Press) and The Buffalo Poems (Duration Press), and the forthcoming On Ruins & Return: Poems 1999-2005. She is also the author of the critical work Led by Language: the Poetry and Poetics of Susan Howe. Back's translations of the poetry of Lea Goldberg -- in Lea Goldberg: Selected Poetry and Drama -- were awarded a 2005 PEN Translation Grant.

Rachel Tzvia Back teaches at Oranim College and Bar-Ilan University. She is the mother of three children, and lives in the Galilee, in the north of Israel.
